How BioTE® Hormone Pellet Therapy Works

If you’re having symptoms of your hormones declining, you have options outside of messy creams, shots that pinch, and pills that are a pain to remember. That said, as you’re comparing your options, you may wonder what sets BioTE hormone pellet therapy apart from other treatments, and that specifically has to do with how this treatment works.

01.

The Consultation

The Consultation

The first step to finding relief from your symptoms is the consultation. This vital meeting with our practitioner is when you discuss the issues you’re currently experiencing, and our practitioner determines if a hormonal imbalance may be occurring as you age and if BioTE therapy may be appropriate.

We’ll review your medical history to ensure your symptoms aren’t related to a current or past issue or a medication you’re taking. Once our doctor determines your issue could be hormonal, you’ll be ordered bloodwork to assess whether you’re a candidate for BioTE hormone pellet therapy.

After we receive your lab results, you’ll return to review our findings. Based on this information, we can determine if BioTE hormone replacement therapy may benefit you and establish your personalized dosage.

During your consultation, we’ll review all hormone replacement therapy options we offer, including BioTE pellets, and discuss the pros and cons of each so you can choose the option that best fits your lifestyle.

02.

Receiving BioTE® Treatment

Receiving BioTE® Treatment

You can receive your BioTE pellet treatment at your second visit. Your customized BioTE pellets will be prepared specifically for you and inserted during a quick, in-office procedure that typically takes about 15 minutes.

Your practitioner will use a sterilized scalpel to make a small incision, typically in the upper buttocks or hip area, allowing the BioTE pellets to remain comfortably in place while gradually releasing hormones.

Our physician will then insert the pellets. Women who have not had a hysterectomy will receive both estrogen and progesterone as part of their BioTE hormone protocol [BioTE added], helping protect the uterine lining and reduce future cancer risk.

No stitches are needed, and the incision heals naturally within a few days.

03.

Follow-Up Appointments

Follow-Up Appointments

If you experience any serious or persistent side effects after BioTE pellet therapy, please contact us. Adjustments can be made at future insertions if needed.

Follow-up appointments are typically scheduled every three to six months to reassess hormone levels and determine whether another BioTE pellet insertion is needed.

How BioTE® Pellets Work in the Body

How BioTE® Pellets Work in the Body

After insertion, BioTE pellets dissolve slowly in the subcutaneous tissue and steadily release bioidentical hormones into your bloodstream. This consistent delivery helps restore hormone levels closer to their optimal range, reducing symptoms associated with hormonal decline.

BioTE hormones are bioidentical, meaning they closely mimic the structure of the hormones your body naturally produces, allowing for better absorption and utilization.

Qualifying for BioTE® Hormone Pellet Therapy

Wondering if you’re a candidate for hormone pellet therapy and if you should schedule a consultation? These considerations are taken into account when determining your eligibility.

Have Symptoms That Are Interfering with Your Life

Because any treatment comes with risks, we suggest that only people who absolutely need it receive it. So, if you’re only having a few or only mild symptoms, it may not be worth it to receive hormone replacement therapy.

Have a Hormonal Deficiency

To qualify for BioTE hormone replacement therapy, you’ll need to have a confirmed hormonal deficiency. If you don’t have one already, our Miami physician will test and confirm one way or another.

Would Like a Solution That’s Nearly Hassle-Free

Some people don’t want the hassle of needing regular injections or remembering to change a patch or apply a cream. A person may not want to deal with a cream in general. Pellets just require the doctor to insert them, and they may only need to be done two to four times per year.

Have Good Overall Health

Before you receive any type of BioTE hormone replacement therapy, our practitioner will assess your medical history to ensure the treatment is safe for you. While not specific to pellets, the hormones aren’t safe for everyone. For those with a heightened risk of blood clots or some types of cancer, for instance, hormones might not be safe.

Don’t Have Severe Liver or Kidney Disease

Your kidneys and liver play a role in processing hormones. If one or both of these organs are compromised severely, hormone therapy could be dangerous.

FAQs About BioTE® Hormone Pellet Therapy

One of the downsides of hormone pellet therapy is that the dosage can’t be changed until you come into the office for your next insertion. This could be unpleasant if it’s not working enough or the dose is too high.

While gender and dosage play a role in the price, most patients can expect to pay between $300 and $800 per session.

Hormone pellet therapy steadily releases hormones into your system to replace the ones you’re lacking and correct the symptoms you’re having from lower-than-normal levels.

Those who have severe kidney or liver disease, an elevated risk of blood clots, or certain cancers may not be suitable candidates for the treatment.

Bioidentical hormones tend to be the safest because people respond better to these than to synthetic versions. When you take bioidentical ones, they’re most like your own hormones, making it so your body can process them well.

While insurance may cover traditional forms of hormone therapy if your physician shows it’s medically necessary, hormone pellets aren’t usually covered. These are generally more expensive, and opting for this form isn’t necessary.

There isn’t a specific age or time in your life when you should get hormone replacement therapy. You generally will want to wait until you’re having symptoms that are interfering with your life, such as hot flashes, mood swings, night sweats, weight gain, memory/concentration problems, or low libido. Men may notice they’re losing muscle mass or having trouble gaining any new muscle.
